PURPOSE
The Pastor of Personal Care will consistently seek to identify areas of personal concern throughout the church body and develop caring ministries that will address those concerns, both on an individual and group level. He/she will endeavor to spend half of the time available in direct ministry to individuals and the other half of his/her time in the oversight, encouragement and training of others in the church who are similarly involved in ministry to persons. The overall purpose of this ministry will be to aid in the spiritual growth of members in the Body of Christ, seeing them develop in their ability to trust in the Lord and rise above personal difficulties to the extent that they may become increasingly useful in their own ministry, according to God's call on their lives.
QUALIFICATIONS
* The Pastor of Personal Care will have a self-awareness of receiving a call from the Lord for pastoral ministry, having had that call confirmed by others in the Body of Christ.
* He/She will be holding credentials with the Assemblies of God, at least having attained to the level of Licensed to Preach or is close to the point of receiving such credentials.
* There will be a demonstrated ability to communicate messages built on the Scriptures to groups, both small and large.
* An integrity of person, and a demonstration of those character qualities that are represented by the list of the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23, and a willingness to continue to grow in the development of such characteristics.
* A pattern of spiritual growth that is evidenced by a life of prayer, personal obedience to the Word of God and the proven ability to discern the Lord's will and guidance in decision making.
* A relaxed and caring attitude when in the presence of people, regardless of their background and present status.
* A basic understanding of the nature and operation of the church that is informed by Scripture and, in broad terms, compatible with that of the Senior Pastor.
EXPECTATIONS
* The Pastor of Personal care will conduct himself in such a way that his behavior, speech and attitudes represent a high standard of holiness. He will strive to live in such a way as to bring utmost respect to the office of Pastor.
* The Pastor of Personal Care will demonstrate a strong sense of loyalty to the Senior Pastor, endeavoring to be cooperative with him in the carrying out of his ministry tasks. When differences of opinion or problems arise in the performing of his work or relationships, the Pastor of Pastoral Care will always speak first of these matters in private conversation with the Senior Pastor. Should an occasion arise in which he feels that his concerns are not being adequately addressed, the minister of pastoral carewill request a meeting with the Elders of the church, along with the Senior Pastor.
* Pastor of Personal Care will be prepared to carry out any request of the Senior Pastor that is commonly understood to be a function that is related to pastoral ministry, provided adequate time for discussion is given in order to assure that the carrying out of such a request will not unnecessarily impinge upon duties and responsibilities previously assigned. Under normal conditions, such requests may include, but not be limited to, the following:
1) Personal visitation of members of the church or others associated with the church who are hospitalized.
2) Personal visitation of bereaved members.
3) Coordination of the distribution of monies commonly designated as benevolence, according to guidelines set by the deacon supervising Benevolence, and/or the Benevolence Committee.
4) Participation on a committee that has benevolence as its major focus.
5) Serve as a liaison with the church's elders.
6) Assist with matters relative to Baptisms, Dedications, Communion and New Member receptions.
7) Assist with, or conduct funerals.
8) Provide leadership and/or assistance with the development and maintenance of those ministries that enable the congregation to be faithful in personal devotions and intercessory prayer, such as prayer chain, prayer partners, short and long-term prayer meeting arrangements.
9) Oversee newcomers follow-up ministries.
10) Maintain an updated prayer list in the weekly bulletin.
11) Assist with worship services and special events as needed.
12) Be available as a resource person to deacons, as specifically assigned by the senior pastor.
13) Provide leadership for specified short-term projects.
14) Make phone and/or personal contact with members in crisis situations.
15) Preaching and/or teaching before either the entire congregation or designated groups within or without the church, where the Senior Pastor may otherwise have the responsibility to do so.
16) Contact those members whose repeated absence has come to the attention of the pastors.
17) Supervision of those of the church who are involved in Nursing Home ministry.
The Pastor of Personal Care will respond to such requests when either originating from the senior pastor or having his explicit approval.
* The Pastor of Personal Care will seek to encourage the development of those gifts in the congregation that are compatible with the desire to provide caring personal attention to those who are in need. He should always seek an eye to the training up of faithful men and women to fulfill the work of ministry in the church.
* The Pastor of Personal Care will keep the Senior Pastor, his secretary, the receptionist apprised of his whereabouts during those times he is considered to be "on duty".
* The Pastor of Personal Care will keep regular office hours, as approved by the Senior Pastor, except when additional evening units of time are substituted as required. He will invest a minimum of thirteen (13) and a maximum of fifteen (15) units of time each week on behalf of the church. A unit of time being one full morning, afternoon or evening time period, normally consisting of three (3) to four (4) hours.
* The Pastor of Personal Care will coordinate the efforts of all those people in the congregation who intentionally offer their time to minister to the sick, the elderly, the shut-ins, hospitalized and imprisoned.
* Faithful attendance at regularly scheduled worship services.
* Discretion in discussing church matters with members
and staff, promoting good working relationships and
loyalty one to the other. The Pastor of Personal Care
will always have ready access to the Senior Pastor.
OPPORTUNITIES
* He will have a private office and adequate secretarial support.
* He and his wife, if married, will be invited to attend the annual denominational meetings at the church's expense.
* He will have opportunity to initiate new ministries within the church, under the guidance of the Senior Pastor and/or Assistant Pastor.
* He will have three (3) weeks vacation, scheduled with the approval of the Senior Pastor as well as up to thirteen (13) holidays and/or personal days per year. One day a week will be consistently set aside for personal and family responsibilities.
* He will be free to attend six (6) Sectional Pastors Fellowship gatherings or Fellowship and training events, particularly planned for assistant pastors, each year .
* Personally guide and direct a small group of people involved in healing ministry.
* He may request attendance at one seminar per year at the church's expense that would provide training and inspiration relative to the development of his ministry.
* An effort may be made to provide a small group (four to five persons), faithful members of the church, who would be willing to meet with the Pastor of Personal Care three times a year to provide meaningful feedback relative to the performance of his ministry.
* Adequate salary provisions will be made by the Senior Pastor and the deacons, and will include housing and auto allowances as well as medical insurance benefits. Salary and benefits will be reviewed each year at the discretion of the Senior Pastor and Board of Deacons.
ACCOUNTABILITY
* Primarily responsible to the Lord. Performing ministry and leadership with enthusiasm and seeking to please Him who has called.
* Secondarily, accountable to the Senior Pastor. The Pastor of Personal Care will keep the Senior Pastor fully informed of his work, seek counsel and take instructions or corrections from the Senior Pastor when necessary. Confer with the Senior Pastor on any matters related to personal matters dealt with to the extent that that information will aid the senior pastor in the fulfilling of his ministry. This will be primarily accomplished in a 25 minute meeting what will be scheduled each week at the same time.
* He will provide for the Senior Pastor a log of each week's activities, specifically chronicling personal visits, personal phone calls, brief descriptions of needs as discovered in the course of those visits or included in the bulletin prayer corner.
* Mutual accountability with other members of the pastoral staff during weekly staff devotional meetings and other meetings called as necessary.
* Conference once a quarter with the Assistant Pastor. At least one of these with the Senior Pastor present. This will involve discussion of goals, program plans, resources needed, obstacles, clearing the calendar for the following quarter and itemization of current reading.
* Accountability to the church will take place on a one-page written annual report provided during the month of January.
