We read the accounts in the Gospels. These give us the historical reflections of the eye witnesses to the crucifixion.
But what did the early church believe about the crucifixion of Jesus? What did the "Cross" mean to them? The church throughout the centuries has believed that their written explanations are to be universally accepted. What did they write concerning the Cross of Jesus?
We have come to accept the cross as a symbol. Every time we see one, it reminds us of the message it represents. What is that message?
The "Cross", according to the Apostles
B. It is an offensive meesage: Because of the Cross, Jesus is Lord
The culture has difficulty here because it cannot accept His Soverign and Solitary Lordship. For the Christian, either He is Lord of all, or He is not Lord at all.
A. The Cross violates religious ritual and ceremony
B. Religion is the enemy of the Cross
C. The Cross is the source of Unity within the Church
D. The Cross is central in the Preaching of the church
B. Victory over sin, Satan, and legalism
C. In turn, giving strength for service
D. The cross belongs to the Christian
